Roanoke High Schools to Host Virginia Band Contest


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Patrick Henry and William Fleming High Schools are hosting a Star City Classic competition for Virginia marching bands on Saturday.

According to Roanoke Public Schools, the event will take place Sept. 17 at 2:30 p.m. at William Fleming High School at 3649 Ferncliff Ave. NW to Roanoke.

Organizers say the Star City Classic will feature 11 high school bands from across the region as they put on performances, combining music with marching precision, color guard routines, dance and drama. Prizes will be awarded to exemplary bands that achieve high marks in categories such as music, visual, general effects, percussion and color keeping.

Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance online here, and or will be available at the boarding gate in cash only. Tickets purchased in advance are non-refundable and ticket prices are as follows:

  • $10 – Adult ticket with program
  • $5 – Children 5 to 12 years old
  • Free – Children 4 and under

The Star City Classic is an outdoor, “just-only” event that features a food concession and vendors who will be available on-site, as well as free parking.
