Queen Carnation Contestants Cool Off at Hot Pots

Review staff report

Participants in the Biggest Alliance Carnation Festival Queen Contest got to work Monday at Hot Pots in Alliance, decorating vases they will gift to their contest sponsors during the upcoming Parent Sponsor Social Sponsor. Twenty young women will participate in the competition. Four have dropped out since the orientation event in June. Candidates will be busy this week, helping out with a blood drive at Alliance Elks Lodge # 467 on Thursday, and rolling up their sleeves to work at the Habitat for Humanity Apostles construction site on Saturday. The events are annual stops for competitors, who can learn more about Carnation City on their city tours as they volunteer and prepare for the July 31 competition at Alliance High School. This year’s competition will take place before the Carnation Festival begins, to allow the Queen and her court to participate in the events from August 5 to 15. The young women receive guidance and learn from the previous Queen and Court, who ruled the 2019 festival. There was no Carnation Festival in 2020 due to limits placed on community gatherings during the height of the year. the COVID-19 pandemic.
