Portsmouth have signed an emergency loan deal with Sheffield United goalkeeper Jake Eastwood.

The 24-year-old has signed a seven-day loan deal at Fratton Park and is expected to play in tonight’s Papa John’s Trophy group stage match against AFC Wimbledon at Plow Lane.

Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is unavailable for tonight’s game and is expected to represent his country for the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Serbia tonight in Dublin.

Arrived on loan from the Blades on a short-term contract, this is Eastwood’s eighth loan from Steel City, having also arrived on loan from Sheffield FC, Gainsborough Trinity, Mickleover Sports, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe United, Kilmarnock and Grimsby Town.

Eastwood has made three appearances for the Blades, including two in the Carabao Cup and one in the league.

Tonight’s Papa John’s Trophy shock is set to make Eastwood one of the Blues’ three newbies, with summer rookies Mahlon Romeo and Louis Thompson also hoping to start for the Blues against their League One rivals.

Eastwood is the Blues’ sixth loan signing, with just five allowed for game teams. However, Miguel Azeez is unable to feature as he is in international service with England’s Under-20s.
