New Buc Luke Goedeke adds competition at left guard

Goedeke joins this competition while providing some positional flexibility if needed. The Buccaneers are currently on the edges with longtime stalwart left tackle Donovan Smith and young Pro Bowl right tackle Tristan Wirfs.

“I don’t know if we see him as a starting tackle right now, but I don’t think we should see him as a tackle right now with our two guys,” Spytek said of Goedeke. “If we were in a rush I think he could go out there and do it for us, but I would expect him to come in there at left guard and compete and give those other guys a real race for their money.”

Goeteke missed Central Michigan’s 2020 season through injury, but also started 14 games at right tackle as a redshirt rookie in 2019. Last season, he received first-team all-time honors. MAC conferences.

“He’s strong and aggressive,” Spytek said. “He’s got power. He’s a good athlete. And I would add to that competitiveness, just tough toughness. We like that too. He’s a bit of all of those things.

“He’s pretty solid in both running and pass blocking, with room to improve in both. These kids now, they’re growing up throwing the ball a lot more than they ever have. , so they’re probably a bit more used to playing in the passing game than they were 20 years ago when I was coming up.”
