Music Worcester announces the results of the 2021 Young Artists Competition


WORCESTER – Music Worcester recently announced the results of its 2021 competitions for young artists.

In the Collegiate Vocal Competition, the first prize, the Dr. Paul E. Shannon Memorial Prize, went to Kerrigan Bigalow of the Juilliard School and North Andover, the second prize went to Sara Hargrave of the University of Cincinnati and from Cincinnati, Ohio, third prize went to Katherine Platte of the University of Hartford and Hartford. The Judges Incentive Award went to Tyreese Kadle of the Longy School of Music and Cambridge.

In the High School Vocal Competition, first prize went to Lydia Rommel Lexington High School and Lexington, second prize went to Sachi Badola of Chelmsford High School and Chelmsford. The Judges Incentive Award went to Avery Woods Weber of Hall High School and West Hartford, Connecticut.

In the senior instrumental division, the first prize, the Stasia B. Hovenesia Prize from the Music Guild of Music Worcester, went to Ethan Chaves of Charlton and Justin Wang of the Mass Academy of Math and Science and Northborough. The second prize went to Plamen Fung of Whitmore Online High School and Westborough. The third prize went to Selena Shen of Worcester Academy and Shrewsbury. Honorable mention went to Mateo Vidali of Wachusett and Holden Regional High School.

In the junior instrumental division, the first prize, the Midge Blue Hamilton Prize, went to Vivian Shen of Sherwood Middle School and Shrewsbury. The second prize went to Samantha “Sami” Wang of Melican Middle School and Northborough. The third prize went to Alexander Hernández-Williams of Holden. Honorable mentions were awarded to Aditi Pathak of Oak Middle School and Shrewsbury, April Zhang of Sarah W. Gibbons Middle School and Westborough. The Judges’ Incentive Award went to Sofia Hernández-Williams of Holden.
