Twenty-four students from Creighton and Drake Universities competed to win the ninth annual Murphy Cup Marketing Strategy Competition, a premier marketing competition that delivers real-world experience by giving students the opportunity to interact with a business client and present her with marketing strategies.

The Murphy Cup is the brainchild of Chris Murphy, an alumnus of Drake and a member of the Board of Trustees of Creighton University. He introduced the competition to schools to provide an unforgettable undergraduate experience that allows students to work collaboratively with each other and with a client. The Murphy Cup alternates annually between host universities, this year at Creighton.
âExperiential learning reinforces theory learned in the classroom,â said Anthony Hendrickson, Ph.D., Dean of Heider College of Business at Creighton.
âThe Murphy Cup weekend is unique. Not only does it reinforce the content of course work, but it also enables students to master these concepts in an atmosphere of collaboration and intellectual exchange.
The competition consisted of six teams of four students, each nominated by their teachers. The teams collaborated on a case study to establish a strategic marketing solution for Scooter’s Coffee.
âScooter’s Coffee has been honored to be part of a strong academic tradition that is the Murphy Cup,â said Bill Black, Director of Marketing, Scooter’s Coffee. âWe enjoyed working closely with the students and faculty, who provided a strategic and creative marketing solution. “
