SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Congressman Richard Neal will be at Quadrangle Green Thursday afternoon to announce a massive contribution to Springfield museums.

“As a beloved community anchor and an important informal learning center, we were delighted to reopen in July 2020. Our visitors bring our museums to life with energy and potential and we are delighted to find them in our buildings. We are deeply grateful for the funds provided by the Shuttered Venue Operator Grant, which will help us make up for lost time during this four month period. Springfield Museums President and CEO Kay Simpson

The federal government gave the museum a grant of $ 1.2 million for the closed site operators of the US Small Business Administration. Museums were forced to close for four months at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and reopened in July.
