East Texas man ‘buys back’ own stolen mower for $10,000 on Facebook Marketplace, seller arrested

KILGORE, Texas (KETK) – The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office said they and the Kilgore Police Department arrested Luis Sanchez of Henderson on Friday, after he was found in possession of a Kubota lawn mower stolen $10,000.

“The plaintiff in this case had his livelihood taken away due to the taking of a crucial part of his business. This theft literally stopped his source of income for his family.

Authorities said they received a complaint on Oct. 1 from the owner of a lawn care business saying his Kubota zero-turn mower, 16-foot trailer and weedkillers were all stolen.

During their investigation, officials said they obtained video of a Toyota Tacoma in the area where the equipment was stolen with no trailer attached. Then they said the truck left the area with a trailer and some equipment in tow. They added that they believed the truck and trailer used had also been stolen.

The owner of the equipment then contacted the authorities again when he found his mower for sale on Facebook Marketplace. According to a press release, investigators told him to set up a meeting to buy back his mower for $3,000.

Officials said Sanchez was later arrested and taken to the Gregg County Jail. He was later charged with theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000, falsifying identification numbers and displaying a fictitious license plate.

HSCO and the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office said they searched Sanchez’s property and found narcotics and several stolen items, including vehicles, trailers and lawn equipment.
