Orlando, Florida – Certified American Grown is proud to be the floral and foliage sponsor of 53rd Annual Sylvia Cup Design Competition hosted by Professional Floral Communicators International, during the Society of American Florists Annual Convention in early September 2022. This year’s competition saw 20 designers from across the United States work their art with domestic products to develop arrangements that met the whimsical thematic elements of classic Dr. Seuss novels.

Certified American Grown, the Flower and Foliage Sponsorship Organization, strives to promote and represent the interests of America’s cut flower and foliage farming families. In doing so, this year’s designers took the bounty from all over the United States, from Florida to Alaska and California to Maine and created intricate and unique designs. The winner of this year’s contest is Kelsey Thompson, AIFD of Bloom Studio and Home Decor in Algona, Iowa.

“This year the Sylvia Cup theme was very playful and I really felt like I was playing with the beautiful fresh produce we received,” said Thompson. “You know how you see a flower and a light bulb go out? The shape of a stem, the color of a petal or the slight curvature of a leaf guide you towards the design… I let the flowers and the story inspire me.

Comprised of farm members from across the United States, flowers and foliage were provided by the following US Certified Farms:

  • Alaskan Perfect Peony
  • Albin Hagstrom & Sons
  • Continental Floral Greens
  • Eufloria flowers
  • Fern Trust, Inc.
  • Glad-A-Way Gardens
  • Floral Green Valley
  • Joseph & Son
  • Kendall Farms
  • Roses Len Busch
  • Mellano & Company
  • Ocean Breeze Farms
  • Pyramidal flowers
  • Resendiz Brothers
  • Sun Valley Farms

“We are incredibly thrilled to have talent from across the country working with flowers and foliage from American Grown that truly showcase the beauty grown on our farms,” said Camron King, CEO and Certified American Ambassador. Grown. “The annual Sylvia Cup Design Competition is an honor to be a part of and to support and showcases the ability to design with the generosity and wide array of products bred here in the United States. The contestants made full use of their talent and artistry and we congratulate all the designers, but especially this year’s winner, Kelsey Thompson.

Certified American Grown partners with Professional Floral Communicators International (PFCI) each year to make the contest possible. “We are very grateful to the team and the farms of Certified American Grown for their professional approach in completing our wish list of fresh flowers, foliage and herbs for this year’s Sylvia Cup contest,” said Laurie Lemeck, PFCI, 2022 Sylvia Cup Chair. It was so easy to work with the team and the products we received for competitors! We look forward to working with them again in the future!

The 54e The annual Sylvia Cup competition will take place in September 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona.
