The winners of the Art Walk Central 2021 competition have been officially announced.
Art Walk Central is an annual month-long competition that showcases works of art with different styles of art from artists from the central Michigan area at different locations on Mount Pleasant.
The end of 2021 Art Walk Central was celebrated on Saturday, August 21 on Broadway Street. Make and take home pirate-themed crafts and activities and photo ops were available at 11 a.m. for community members to enjoy.
The winners were announced at 1 p.m. outside Art Reach of Mid Michigan on Broadway Street.
“Every year I say it’s the best,” said Amy Powell, executive director of Art Reach. “I feel like it’s the best Art Walk thing I’ve seen.”
There were four categories that performers could win: Adult Audience Choice, Youth Audience Choice, Adult Judge Choice, and Youth Judge Choice.
The Youth People’s Choice winner was Serenity Baldridge, who took home $ 500.
The Adult Audience Choice winner was Andrea Croft, who took home $ 1,000.
For the Youth Judges Choice category, Kassidy Warner took 2nd place and won $ 500. Isabel Schroeder took 1st place and won $ 1,000.
For the Adult Judges Choice category, Jeff Best took 2nd place and won $ 1,000. Tatsuki Hakoyama took 1st place and won $ 2,500.
Following the announcement of the awards, an ice cream was held in the Art Reach building with ice cream provided by Doozie’s. The cake was also available to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Art Reach of Mid Michigan.
All artwork featured in the city will still be available for viewing during the last full week of August at the respective locations where it was featured in the Art Walk competition.
